So, we’ve slipped on the Featured Blogger front… again. That said, we’re proud to be moving forward, with the latest and greatest object of our affection. Meet Kendra & Van City Pretty.
Working for the Government in their Species at Risk program. Totally unexpected, I know.
WHY I GOT INTO BLOGGING:
Van City Pretty started out as my online portfolio for all of my freelance fashion articles. As I attended events, interviewed people, found new designers, and took pictures, I wanted to share my experiences with others. It grew organically into what it is today, and I love that.
THOUGHTS ON VAN CITY BEING NAMED THE WORLD’S 3RD LEAST FASHIONABLE CITY?
This is a bit of a sore spot for me, and many other Vancouverites. We made the list because Vancouver has a collective obsession with yoga pants. I have seen (on more than one occasion), yoga pants and heels. If that’s the only thing I saw when I visited Vancouver, I would put us on the list too!
In reality, Vancouver has an incredible eco fashion industry that is rapidly expanding, and pockets of different fashion influences all over the city.
WOULDN’T BE CAUGHT DEAD IN:
Yoga pants and heels.
CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT:
An oversized purse. I’m always lugging around my computer, notebooks, my camera, and a small cosmetics department. For me, the bigger the purse, the better.
IN MY MAKEUP BAG:
The basics; I’m always keeping an eye out for products that create a natural look. Two of my favorites are Benefit’s Posietint lip and cheek stain, and Laura Mercier’s Secret Concealer. Late night writing and tight deadlines can leave me looking exhausted; both products make me look human again!
FAVOURITE VANCOUVER SHOPPING:
Thrift Stores. I love finding an item that no one else has and combining it with new pieces to create a unique look. Let’s be honest, I also love paying $2 for an addition to my wardrobe.
FAVOURITE BLOGS / SITES FOR INSPIRATION:
Fashionista, Refinery 29, Etsy, and The Beauty Department.
ALL-TIME STYLE ICONS:
Carine Roitfeld, Rachel Roy, Olivia Palermo, Zooey Deschanel, and Rumi Neely.
ANY UPCOMING PROJECTS?
7Ponies Production is filming a documentary about the fashion bloggers of frockOn.com, including me! It’s totally out of my comfort zone, but I’m so excited to see where it takes us.
I’m focusing on getting a few of my articles published in print, and building my portfolio. I’ve been writing a book for a few years now, so I’d like to finish that sometime in the next millennium.
