Just like Britney, I’m back, b*tch. No, I’m not dropping my highly anticipated dance pop album, but I’m back for another season of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York. It’s been crazy so far, but I thought I would take some time away from this show-going, air-kissing, after-partying, and champagne-sipping extravaganza to, you know, actually write about it. First up? Let’s talk about Jill Stuart.
Jill Stuart showed her Fall ’12 collection on Saturday morning at the Lincoln Center. Aside from yours truly, the celebrity guests included Kelly Bensimon, Olivia Palermo and Nikki Reed. I wasn’t in the front row with them, but I did enjoy staring at the backs of their heads, which yes, sounds creepy, but at least I didn’t snap any photos that would give them the impression that I wanted to make a skin suit out of them, like this one of Nina Dobrev (sorry Nina, that was totally weird).
Jill Stuart. The prints! The lace! The dresses! The peplums! As expected, it was awesome. It was a bit darker than usual: her inspiration was “the dark, magical world of Nick Cave’s women,” such as PJ Harvey, Lydia Lunch, and his wife, Susie Bick. Although driven by “mysterious nonchalance”, she still maintained that ultra feminine aesthetic that we know and love her for. I loved the peacoats with a touch of fur, the assortment of lace-paneled dresses, the peplum blouses and the printed trousers. Most of all, I loved the nude dresses with a sheer black overlay and a helluva lot of beading and embellishment. What do you think?
