WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Scene Queens

Our memories of 2007 Internet happenings are pretty much consumed by the following three names: Kiki Kannibal, Hannah Beth, and Audrey Kitching. If they ring a bell, be prepared to be taken on a whirlwind of nostalgia and septum piercings…because the Gloomy Bear ghosts of your dark past are about to be *revealed*.

It was the era of raccoon striped hair, extreme eyeliner and blinged-out Hello Kitty paraphernalia. Myspace ruled the Interwebs, and hipsters and galaxy backgrounds were not yet a polarizing pair. With the epitomizing scene girl diamond print, various material goods that involved cute robots and/or menacing bats and/or colourful cupcakes, and a plethora of ridiculous tutu’s, leaders of the ~scene~ scene demonstrated how a small bout of internet fame could essentially transform virtual nobodies into sub-culture phenomenons.

Hand-in-hand with the rise of powerpop and emo music, scene culture transcended through time, space, and the internet, to concert venues, small towns, and malls (Hot Topic). Although a nightmare for parents wondering what the hell happened to their children, and a current nightmare for young adults looking back on old pictures of themselves, nearly half a decade later, many scene queen idols have yet to become obsolete.

Kiki Kannibal

In 2011, Rolling Stone Magazine did an exposé on Kiki Kannibal’s time in the spotlight and the horrors of the stalkers and predators that preceded. Although the scandal that surrounded her was life-changing, she continues to insists that she is still culturally relevant.

She is currently YouTube beauty guru, a musician, AND an artist. ~The Kiki Kannibal empire~.

Dakota Rose

Kiki’s mini-me sister, Dakota Rose, was also a big name in the scene girl dayz. She was pretty much exactly like Kiki except younger (she was only 11 in 2007), and that was…interesting…and alarming.

Now she looks like this. And does this. And yeah. Still no comment.

Hanna Beth

Hanna Beth’s reign over the internet revolved around copious amounts of drama. Previously dating Miley’s older brother Trace Cyrus, Hanna Beth is no stranger to ~the spotlight~.

Now she is somewhat of a style icon and is BFF’s with the one and only Demi Lovato. Duh.

Audrey Kitching

Miss. Kitching was arguably the most well recognized scene queen, and that may or may not be accredited to her signature pink hair.

Five years later, she has pink hair, but now she is a journalist, stylist, and /designer/ as well. Which is a lot more impressive.

*BONUS* In case you were wondering, Jeffree Star is pretty much the same.
