The girls of Clueless may have been clueless on a lot of things – cooking? Homework? AS IF! But they did have a clue about boys, and definitely weren’t clueless to fashion. Women’s Wear Daily called Clueless the “fashion film of the year” when it debuted in 1995, and it’s totally worthy of our Thursday Throwback spot. Remember Cher’s computerized closet? We all wanted one of those. The girls of Clueless would never be reeking like designer impostor perfume, and they wouldn’t wear a watch just to tell the time, unless it matched the outfit. Duh. Never a fashion victim or ensemble challenged (except maybe that tank-top over t-shirt look) even a little bit humanitarian, (Cher donated many expensive Italian outfits). Get a fashion clue from Clueless with this totally super awesome informative guide, based on bits of fashion wisdom. Whatever!

Queen C

Cher was the ring leader of the group. She always had the ultimate in girly, preppy, pretty fashion choices. That iconic red dress, and that questionable white Calvin Klein number. And everyone wore their tanks over their t-shirts after this movie.

Cher’s dad inquires about her little white ‘dress’ before she leaves the house: “What the hell is that? A dress? Says who?” Says Calvin Klein – Then Cher covers it will a clear trench coat. #problemsolving

Tomboy Tai

“She could be a farmer in those clothes” - Amber to Tai.

Tai was the badass of the bunch, the ugly duckling who eventually got absorbed by Cher and the girls and turned into a smoking hot red-head. Her initial style of jean jackets, overalls, flannel shirts and bushy eye brows were welcomed by girls who weren’t into girly things.

Daring Dionne

“Been shopping with doctor Seuss?” Cher to Dionne.

Cher was into her pared down berets, but Dionne had a penchant for crazy hats, colours and anything patterned. Sometimes the two butted heads, fashion wise, but sometimes they matched up perfectly, and literally. Who could forget the scene where they showed up to school in matching tartan skirt/blazer ensembles?

Over-The-Top Amber

Amber was the most colourful of the bunch; blue hair, sailor suits and matching colour accessories.

Just Plain Josh

Cher to Josh: “So, this flannel thing. Is that a nod to the crispy Seattle weather, or are you just trying to stay warm in front of the refrigerator?”

Cher’s step-brother and eventual love interest is far from the fashion clique, but Cher likes him anyway. You remember what happened when she dated a guy that dressed better than she did right? “Don’t date a guy that dresses better than you do. What would you bring to the relationship?”

Notes On Boys

“I don’t want to be a traitor to my generation and all but I don’t get how guys dress today. I mean, come on, it looks like they just fell out of bed and put on some baggy pants and take their greasy hair – ew – and cover it up with a backwards cap and like, we’re expected to swoon? I don’t think so.” Thanks to Cher and the Clueless crew, a fashion revolution was championed, by details and daily bathing.
