In 1994, we witnessed a British invasion in the form of five tongue tingling ladies. Their sound was electric and (annoyingly?) unforgettable. They were (and still are) The Spice Girls, Victoria Beckham (née Adams) “Posh Spice”, Melanie Brown “Scary Spice”, Emma Bunton “Baby Spice”, Melanie Chisholm “Sporty Spice”, and Geri Halliwell “Ginger Spice”. Girl Power returns: The Spice Girls reunite for new musical! What better reason to investigate The Spice Girls’ style then vs. now. We all had our faces, right? Which Spice Girl were you then? And which Spice style are you stealing now?
SCARY SPICE

She was, well, scary! In a fierce fashion kind of sense. Big hair, big patterns, crop tops and baggy pants. Melanie B is all grown up with hair straight and down, and designer gowns that show off her better assets.

POSH SPICE

Admittedly the most embarrassed to be part of this lot, Posh was the black sheep of the band. Literally, all black everything, black leather dresses that looked like a second skin. Her short hair properly manicured, and never breaking a sweat. Not much has changed for this tight wad, except for maybe her last name. We love her simplicity and clean lines.

GINGER SPICE

A beacon of hope for red haired girls everywhere! Who could forget her platform boots, as high on her heel as they were on the thigh? Definitely the most fashion-centric of the group. She’s since lightened up her hair, to an almost blonde shade, and has generally toned down her colourful wardrobe.

BABY SPICE

Speaking of real blondes, Emma was the girliest girl. Pink and pretty everything. The obvious baby of the crew has come into her own fashion sense, and dropped the cutesy in exchange for dainty and lady like. And grown up pigtails are now a thing.

SPORTY SPICE

Track pants and runners. Sporty girls could be sexy too! We loved that she was all about fitness (aren’t we all?) and who doesn’t have a pair of Adidas in their closet? She was the practical one, and the tomboy of the group. But it’s true what they say, the ‘ugly duckling’ turned into a beautiful sporty swan.

Are you still the same Spice? I think there’s room for a little sprinkle of each in our own fashion plates.
