Say farewell to the days when wearing pajamas outside the confinements of your home triggered an onslaught of judging stares, because fancy pajamas are rapidly increasing in wardrobe prominence. Misconceptions that you are a lazy slob, commence!

Okay, so for those who aren’t in tune with the completely sensible world of fashion, judging stares regarding your fancy pajamas may continue to ensue, but the connotations regarding the public wearability of sleepwear from an industry standpoint has vastly evolved. Made in luxurious silks, a number of pajama sets and pajama-inspired garb made their way to the runway and fast-fashion retailers, as consumers quickly ate up the opportunity to have both comfort and style while still demonstrating their fashion ruthlessness.
3 reasons that wearing pajamas outside your house is a good idea:

1) If dressing head to toe in sleepytime attire isn’t really your thing, you can lessen the blow by throwing on a blazer. Perfect, now you are professional.

2) Schmidt from “New Girl” (aka that TV series with Zooey Deschanel), wears dress pants to bed which he may or may not wear out of the house the following morning. Consider this routine… except with pajamas. And Alexa Chung. Literally roll out of bed, and take “effortless dressing” to whole new levels.

3) If you’re still in doubt, just consider PJs to be the updated pantsuit rather than a last ditch attempt to clothe your body before leaving the house. Obviously, the Man Repeller knows what she’s doing, and we encourage you to follow her example because she is always right.

If you want to be trendy but just can’t afford to jump on the luxury pajama bandwagon, I encourage you to be thrifty and head over to your local department store to grab a cheap polyester set. Cartoon monkeys? No problem, pair with some heels. Tacky florals? It’s okay, maybe you can mix your prints (!!!)

Finally, as much as I condone this trend, I must ask…when will we know when it stops being appropriate to exit our houses wearing our pajamas? Is investing in Louis Vuitton pajamas an unwise decision? When will pajamas just be pajamas again?! Only time will tell…
