HOW TO: Keep Your Eyeshadow From Creasing

It’s summer.  It’s hot & humid.  And if you are like me, your eyelids are kinda oily in general. And by the end of the day your painstaking artwork has slid into a greasy line of goo in your eyelid.  Well, there are 2 solutions: keep your makeup focused on a bright lip and skip the eye makeup OR follow these tips for crease-free peepers!

1. Make sure you have removed oils from eyelid prior to application.

Use a light powder to absorb oils or press a blotting sheet onto your lids. I like Clean & Clear Oil-Absorbing Sheets and MAC Blot Film.

2. Use a base.

Some people like using a concealer or foundation but I find they start creasing as well, so I prefer using an actual eye primer. My favourites: Lise Watier Makeup Base For Eyes and Lips, Lancome Aquatique Waterproof Eyecolour Base & Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer.

3. Don’t use a cream eyeshadow.

They have their time and purpose, but unless they are specifically formulated to NOT MOVE (like MAC Paints, MAC Paintpots & Maybelline Color Tattoo) you will probably be better off using a powder shadow.

4. Use a light hand.

The thicker you pack it on, the more likely it is to pool and move around.  A sheer application is more likely to have longer lasting results.

5. Waterproof eyeliner.

I absolutely love MAC Liquidlast Liner, Lise Watier 24 Hrs Glam Eyeliner, and MAC Superslick Liquid Eyeliner.  Tried and tested, these babies LAST.  I avoid pencil liners as they are usually wax based so once they warm up on your skin, they tend to move.

6. To avoid smudgy mascara, use a mascara/eyelash primer.

Sometimes even waterproof mascara will smudge if the skin around the eye is oily (oils remove waterproof products… they are meant to be WATERproof, not OILproof.)  Layering your favorite mascara over a good lash primer will help keep you from looking like a raccoon… unless you are Taylor Momsen, then do your thang, girl.

Now go paint your face!

Love and false lashes,

Lucky
