Another year of school is on the horizon. Sand between your toes is soon to be a distant memory, a light year ways away. Before you know it you’ll have to bid farewell to your summer and swap it for A Midsummer Night’s Dream. But we’re here to help you find comfort in the August blues, at least where fashion is concerned. Because some things you just shouldn’t have to retire come September. Among these things are five summer trends we’re taking into fall:
Nautical Stripes

Nods to nautical are always a great way to add dimension to any fall ensemble. Think bateau stripes to tip off thick cable-knit sweaters and wide-legged pants for a truly effortless Parisian theme.
Printed Bottoms

The print pant parade isn’t coming to an end anytime soon, and with more of our favourite bloggers and industry people jumping on the bandwagon, it’s unlikely bold bottoms will loose momentum come September. Whether it’s tapered jeans or billowing harem pants, now’s the time to trade in those floral shorts for patterned bottoms – just remember to choose a print with darker hues or bright shades backboned by a dark denim, as opposed to a vibrant tropical theme straight out of the resort collections. Styled with moto jackets, basic blazers, or yes, even more prints, the trend is fall-appropriate and still truly confident.
Flirty Pastels

Pastels were all the rage this summer, and their flirty vibe makes them hard to give up. Rather than full-on blocks of rainbow accents, sporadic bursts of pastel lavenders, deep reds or aqua’s are a more weather-appropriate way to add an element of surprise to fall’s neutral uniform.
Animal Prints

Animal prints are going on. In fact, their mark on both the runway and the streets for several seasons now has transformed the wild spots and stripes from a fashion trend into a fashion staple – and at least one section of every department store into a petting zoo. The easiest way to pull them off is to understand that they’re as versatile as incorporating a leopard print loafer to an otherwise dull outfit, to mixing a serpent print topper with bold florals for a truly urban jungle look. And the most rewarding part about investing in animal prints is that they’re truly seasonless – so however you wear them in the summer will also work for fall. If you’re still not convinced, opt for uncomplicated silhouettes to make a sweet and approachable statement.
Sheer

If you’ve got it flaunt it, and that’s what this season’s sheer is all about. While it may appear ludicrous to wear the translucent trend beyond the beach, there’s an appropriate way to take it to the hallways for fall. First and foremost, trade in the bikini for a solid slip to ensure you won’t flash any of your classmates. The key to teasing the trend is by layering. With opaque pieces underneath you’ll achieve a look that’s completely sexy but still PG.
