Don’t we all envy the intricate and stunningly flawless looks on the models that stomp the runway of New York Fashion Week every season? If only teams of makeup artists could come to our bathrooms every single morning and make us look hot and fierce. Runway looks aren’t completely out of reach, though. Some designers choose beauty looks that real girls can pull off… dare I say… easily – and here are a few favourites from Spring 2013.
Strong Brows // Alexander Wang
In his usual style, Alexander Wang bolded up his models’ brows and left their faces a dewy and blank canvas to give them a boyish charm. Strong eyebrows are always on trend and are the key to framing eyes, especially if your look-du-jour is very natural á-la-Alexander Wang. Brows are an easy way to add emphasis to your everyday look, so it’s time to bust out the brow powder, brushes, pencils and gel to create thick, luscious eyebrows for right now and spring next year.
Bold Lips // Jason Wu
Jason Wu took his girls to the line between elegant and fiery, using a bright crimson lip with flushed cheekbones and deep brows. If there was any time to buy that red lipstick you were always sure would be too much of a statement, the time would be right now. With a sexy pout from Wu along with powerful eyebrows from Wang, you’ll be a showstopper with the sidewalk as your catwalk.
Blush and Bronze // Christian Siriano
Beautiful ballerinas were Siriano’s inspiration for his Spring/Summer 2013 collection, so you can thank his love of dance for making an easy-peasy up do like a high bun so chic and sophisticated. Pairing the lovely hair with softly highlighted eyes, defined yet soft cheeks and a ballet pink lip were the perfect way to tie the entire look together. Siriano proves that looking effortlessly put together truly is effortless. Tie your hair in a quick bun, throw some rouge and bronze on your cheekbones and hit the stage that is your everyday life.
Minimal Yet Sophisticated // Altuzarra
Always wondered how to look supremely put together yet have some drama and originality to your look? Altuzarra will show you how it’s done. Start with a slicked-back, side-parted low bun (or if you’re really daring, try the half pony/half bun look models wore on the runway), bronze your cheeks for definition and replace your usual black liquid liner with a royal blue one. Try an Altuzarra catwalk cat eye by winging the ends horizontally rather than up, up and away.
Pretty In Pastel // Derek Lam
Out of all the looks we’ve dissected so far, by far the easiest to achieve without a team of beauty professionals at your side is brought to us by Derek Lam. Part your hair directly above an arch of one of your brows and use a large round brush to blow dry. Mist some shine spray and secure your hair behind your ears with straight bobby pins. Swipe some gray shadow over your lids, apply a couple coats of mascara, add a peachy blush to your cheekbones and some gloss to your lips – presto, you’re fit for the runway with Derek Lam.
