What goes around comes around – not only an epic Justin Timberlake song, folks. Personally, I’m a fan of clothing from different eras and have always had trouble completely accepting the trends and happenings of the Generation Y. So here are some stylish tips on how to dress like you’re from one of my favourite eras, the 1970′s, and some designers and trendsetters that are helping make it easy.

First, hitting the runway for Fall 2012 Ready-to-Wear were Prada and BCBG Max Azria. It doesn’t always have to be outrageous bell bottoms in fabrics that look like your grandmothers curtains, but more subtle options are out there like a wide legged pant and bold graphic patterns. Earth-tones and faux fur are key ingredients in pulling off a retro look. As for footwear, the chunkier the better. Platforms were already a huge trend this past summer and are perfect for fall weather as well, not to mention fairly easy to walk in.

The ‘bell-bottom’ pant silhouette as mentioned before has been making it’s comeback, perhaps becoming the new ‘skinny jean’? American Apparel has created a super simple version at a reasonable price, so you can still achieve the style we saw on the runway above. Paired with a white t-shirt and platform shoe and you will look like you fashionably travelled back in time.

Finally, I have to pay tribute to style blogger, wunderkind and Rookie Mag editor-in-chief Tavi Gevinson, who basically was my inspiration for this entire post. She effortlessly looks like she was a born in a different era, and even thinks like it too. An advocate for empowering young girls through unique style and fashion – Tavi is super admirable, and I just couldn’t fail to mention and show off her amazing style.

Peace and love!
