Snag Fall ~Designer~ Trends On The Cheap

How devastating is it flipping through the pages of a magazine, and realizing you’re never going to be rich enough to even come close to laying a hand on a designer piece? Well, don’t be discouraged, we’re here to help you out. Inspired directly by designer campaigns, here are our top ten fall-must haves, and what stores are carrying affordable ‘versions’ to keep you up to date with fall trends.

1. Jeweled collars

Burberry Spring/Summer 2012

This fall is all about trending the “statement collar”- a piece that stands out for all that is bright, fun, and extravagant. Hence, Burberry chose the young model, and next-big-thing, Cara Delevingne to be the star in this campaign. This bedazzled collar is a great alternate to necklaces, especially if your skin is easily irritated by fake gold/silver. There are also clip-ons that can be very versatile with the rest of your wardrobe, including, silk blouses, plain tees, and knit pull-over sweaters.

Who would have thought the track-pant would be inspiring the runways? Well, here it is. This pant is great for colour blocking, and come in different styles for casual wear, and work wear. Because this pant has such minimal elegance, you can easily pair it with a solid tee, and accessorize it any way you want!

3. The woven blazer

Chanel Spring/Summer 2012

The Chanel classic blazer is making its way back to Fall with many style variations using all-woven fabric. This trend is perfect for mixing with other fabrics such as leather, cotton, and silk, or use it to simply top off your fall look. Don’t be afraid to combine this look with a patterned shirt or pant- as long as you’re mixing patterns of two very different fabrics, you’re far from clashing the two pieces together!

5. Dark lace

Dolce & Gabbana Falll/Winter 2012

Lace is another trend that’s making a comeback, and this time, it’s darker and better. Wearing the lace top should be the only way to show off a bit of skin this fall; it’s sexy, sophisticated, and easy-to-wear. The classic black lace top is what you should turn to when you’re looking for a semi-formal look. You can simply pair it with a solid black skinny pant, or knee-length pencil skirt, and look effortlessly sexy in seconds.

Giorgio Armani Fall/Winter 2012

Anything leather is a fashion essential for the fall. This year, leather is very popular on collars- it’s sleek and minimal, but it’s bound to make your outfit look ten times better. Let’s face it, leather is quite expensive, so if you’re planning on splurging you should look towards coats and blazers- these items will never go out of style and can be worn over and over.

The Peplum trend has managed to transition itself from spring/summer to fall/winter. This is the perfect piece for those who want to show off their curves, without having to wear a super tight shirt. The peplum top is tailored to fit from the bust area, down to the waist, which accentuates and flatters your curves. Just like he lace top, wear this with a solid skinny pant or pencil skirt.

9. The ankle-length coat

Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2012

This fall, the coats are reaching up (down?) to our ankles- which is perfect for us who live in Canada. The longer the warmer, right? Plus, this will give us the permission to wear skirts during the cold weather, and keep our legs warmer when we decide to wear ankle boots during the winter. For end-of-summer/pre-fall styling, try a light ankle-length vest you can wear during the last days of shorts season.

Where to buy:

Zara (To be released in upcoming collection)

Urban Outfitters $69 (Not an outdoor jacket… but a duster jacket… and so rad)

If there is a pair of boots you need for the fall/winter season, it has to be a pair of knee-high boots. They are the most comfortable fit over your favourite pair of skinny jeans, and match perfectly with a wide range of jackets- including, the biker jacket, bomber jacket, the wool cape, and the classic trench!
