A (Mostly) Serious Guide To Dressing For Thanksgiving Dinner

If you’re anything like me, Thanksgiving dinner is a time for overeating and feasting on goods that only get served once a year. Everyone wants to look their best over the holidays, but sometimes fashionable clothing can be restrictive while eating – especially when copious amounts of food are involved. But fear no more, here are some stylish solutions that will keep you looking good even if you feel stuffed like a turkey. So go ahead and eat your heart out this weekend wearing these food friendly pieces! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

LEGGINGS

 American Apparel $34 / Topshop $28

Everybody knows that leggings are the comfy alternative to wearing real pants such as jeans (ew). With a solid cotton stretch pair, you can eat your weight in stuffing and still stand up after dinner! If you want to look a little more ~sophisticated~ for the holiday, try a pair of shiny high waisted duds. You’ll still have room for dessert with these bad boys on!

OVERSIZED SWEATERS

Topshop $103 / Topshop $87

Oversized sweaters are perfect for Thanksgiving as they are a fall staple piece and allow for maximum stomach expansion. Wearing a darker colour such as mustard or brown is safest for indulging, as any spilt gravy or squash will blend in nicely. Just make sure to wear a shirt underneath in case you need to change out of your eating sweater after the meal.

SCARVES

Urban Outfitters $34 / Forever 21 $8

A printed scarf is the perfect accessory for Thanksgiving dinner. Wearing one loosely around your neck will ensure that any food that misses your mouth will be caught smoothly and stored safely for a later snack. A scarf basically acts as a fashionable napkin and a wearable storage container. Genius.

WRAP DRESSES

BCBG $182 / Gap $55

If you are not a fan of the leggings and sweater combo, a wrap dress is the Thanksgiving outfit for you. With an adjustable tie at the waist, a wrap dress allows you to change the tightness of your outfit with ease. Simply loosen your waistband as each course passes and by the time the pumpkin pie rolls around you will be asking for seconds!

CAPES

Forever 21 $46 / ASOS $122

Capes are very ~trendy~ this season, and luckily for us, they are perfect for eating. With loose, oversized arm holes, capes allow your limbs to reach across the table without hesitation. They are also an ideal garment if you want to save some extra food for later; no one can see what you hide under your cape!

Now eat your heart out and give thanks.
