If you’ve got a decent amount of skill and the desire to kill it with makeup this Halloween – you should probably give the Day of the Dead Sugar Skull a try. Lucky painted Aliya-Jasmine dead and lovely – and it’s creepy, awesome, and strangely beautiful. Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll need and how it’s done:

1. Start by making your face white using a body/face paint. Leave circles around your eyes natural to fill in black, later.
Lucky Recommends: MAC Chromacake in White.
2. Powder with transparent setting powder.
Lucky Recommends: MAC Prep & Prime.
3. Use a mix of black & purple body/face paint to fill around your eyes and create the skull eye socket.
Lucky Recommends: MAC Chromaline in Black & Purple.
4. Use a red blush to contour and dimension to your face.
Lucky Recommends: MAC Blush in Salsa Rose (how appropriate!).
5. Create the ‘absence of a nose’ using plain black body/face paint.
Lucky Recommends: MAC Chromaline in Black.
6. Use a red liquid face paint to add decorative petals around the black eye sockets.
Lucky Recommends: MAC Chromaline in Basic Red.
7. Use a green paint/pencil to line around the red petals
Lucky Recommends: MAC Chromaline in Landscape Green.
8. Add black to the center (inside) of your mouth to make it look ~dead~ inside.
Lucky Recommends: MAC Chromaline in Black.
9. Create the teeth and elongated mouth using a precise liner.
Lucky Recommends: Maybelline Master Precise Liner.
10. Put a bird flower on it!
* Removal tip: Instead of going straight in with the water and finding yourself in the inevitable coloured water dripping down your arms and on your counter scenario – start with makeup removing wipes. Use a few until there’s no more face paint caked in, and then wash your face as per usual.
