I know its a given, but I thought starting off the list with this would put us all in The O.C. mindset.
2. Maybe I’m Amazed – Jem
When Julie marries Caleb and becomes Julie Cooper-Nickel. Ryan and Marissa share an emotional goodbye dance before he must return to a pregnant Theresa in Chino.
3. Hallelujah – Jeff Buckley
The gut-wrenching season one finale. Ryan returns to Chino, Marissa drinks away her sorrows and Seth sails away on a sailboat. A slower version was also played during season 3 when Marissa dies in Ryan’s arms. SO SAD.
4. Into Dust – Mazzy Star
That moment when Ryan carried a drugged up Marissa out of an alley in Tijuana and then you debated overdosing so someone as dreamy as Ryan would come save your life… just kidding, drugs are bad.
5. Worn Me Down – Rachael Yamagata
Marissa and Seth reminisce on what was as they sit together with their broken hearts. #emotions
6. Hide and Seek – Imogen Heap
Funerals, gunshots. This should be The O.C. theme song. Just saying.
7. Honey and the Moon – Joseph Arthur
From the pilot episode where Sandy reluctantly takes a beaten-up Ryan back home to Chino. When they arrive, Ryan’s house is abandoned so Sandy takes him back … YAY.
8. If You Leave – Nada Surf
One of the best moments of O.C. history. Seth catches Anna moments before she is about to board the plane for Pittsburg. Her last words: “confidence Cohen, confidence”
9. Paint the Silence – South
Ryan’s fear of heights is overcome on the ferris wheel when Marissa kisses him for the first time. And then you cried.
10. Dice – Finley Quaye
It’s New Year’s Eve. Marissa is about to kiss Oliver. The countdown is on, and Ryan bursts into the scene to steal the kiss. In slow motion, naturally.
11. Bad Dream – Keane
Summer couldn’t deal with the loss of Marissa. And neither could you. So you *understood*.
12. Champagne Supernova – Oasis
When Seth and Summer finally get back together! They kiss in the rain while Seth hangs upside down in a Spiderman costume. Because that’s the kind of magic that happens in The O.C.!
13. Forever Young – Youth Group
Summer finds out a scandalous secret about Taylor and Dean Hess while Ryan and Marissa share an intimate slow dance in the pool house. Marissa makes a deal with Ryan that the next song to come on the radio will be theirs. From then on, this version of Forever Young by Youth Group was “their song.”
14. I’m Shakin’ – Rooney
Good times at The Bait Shop, you guys!
15. Fix You – Coldplay
At the O.Sea dance Seth and Summer become Prom King and Queen. Meanwhile Julie decides not to drug Caleb but he has a heart attack and dies anyways… Again, these are just the kinds of things that happen in The O.C.
