5 Canadian Recipes For Your Canada Day BBQ

They just grow up so fast. Our Home and Native Land turns 148 years young this Wednesday, and as proud Canadians we usually honour (NOTE THE SPELLING) our Country by hosting a celebratory BBQ surrounded by family and friends.

The FORA girls are never ones to shy away from any opportunity to party HARD and snack HARDER, so without further ado we bring you five Can-EH-dian dishes that we hope make an appearance at Canada Day BBQs from sea to shining sea!

1. Canadian Caesar – So much more than a Bloody Mary

What you’ll need:
• Clamato juice
• Vodka
• Salt and pepper
• Worcestershire sauce
• Hot sauce
• Lemon juice
• Horseradish

Mix all ingredients, and make ’em as strong as you like!

2. Poutine When ketchup just won’t cut it

What you’ll Need: (original recipe here)
• 4 pounds russet potatoes, cut into 1/4 inch matchsticks
• 2 of your favorite beers, I used a Canadian beer (can sub water)
• 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
• 1/4 cup flour (use a gluten free flour blend if needed)
• 1 shallot, finely minced
• 1 clove garlic, minced or grated
• 3 1/2 cups low sodium beef stock*
• 1/2 cup stout beer (or more beef stock)
• 2 tablespoons ketchup
• 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
• 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
• salt and pepper, to taste
• canola oil, for frying
• 3 cups cheddar cheese curds

Pair it with beer for a FULL MO(U)NTY Canadian experience

3. Donair SauceA SERIOUS East Coast delicacy

What you’ll need: (original recipe here)
• 1 can of sweetened condensed milk
• 1/3 cup of white vinegar
• 1 tsp of garlic powder

3 INGREDIENTS TO PARADISE. You’ll seriously be the hit of any Canadian barbecue if you come baring gifts of the donair sauce kind.

4. Nanaimo BarsReppin’ their city HARD

What you’ll need: (original recipe here)
For the Base:
• 2 ounces semi-sweet chocolate
• 1/2 cup butter, softened
• 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 4 tablespoons pasteurized egg whites
• 2 cups graham wafer crumbs
• 1 cup unsweetened coconut

For the filling:
• 4 tablespoons custard powder
• 6 tablespoons milk
• 1/2 cup butter
• 4 cups powdered sugar
• 3 teaspoons vanilla

For the glaze:
• 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate
• 4 tablespoons butter

A sweet Canadian treat, hailing from the West so you know it’s the BEST.

5. Beaver Tails- Not just for the back of a nickel

• all-purpose flour
• whole wheat flour
• eggs
• oil
• milk
• yeast
• salt
• sugar
• cinnamon

It really doesn’t get much more Canadian than this, folks.
