Anyone familiar with Much Digital Studios Creator MissFenderr (aka Alayna Fender) knows that the goofy vlogger is definitely a go-getter. But you might be surprised to learn that she used to feel afraid to seize opportunities that were right in front of her—her default was to always say “no.”
That all changed on her recent Contiki trip to Europe. She adopted a new attitude of just saying yes, and had the adventure of a lifetime thanks to it. Check out five things we learned from Alayna’s newfound stance on saying yes under the cut.
YOU CAN’T LET YOUR FEARS DICTATE YOUR LIFE
In her first vlog, Alayna delves into a pretty personal topic—her ongoing experience with anxiety and mental health issues. Because of this, she admits that her fears and doubts have led her to too often say no, and ultimately turn down some amazing opportunities. A notable experience she missed out on was another Contiki trip to Spain, which she was supposed to embark on with fellow Much Creator Michael Rizzi.
But ever since she’s been embracing saying “yes,” she’s vowed to not let saying no dictate her life. Since then, she’s faced some of her biggest fears, including taking a plane ride all by herself.
YOU’LL LEARN A LOT MORE WHEN YOU SAY YES
Opening herself up to new experiences allowed Alayna to learn a lot about the world–and about herself. Her trip to Europe took her to Berlin, Prague, Krakow and Budapest—all cities immersed in European history. If she hadn’t said yes to the trip, she never would have learned as much as she did about World War II or experimented with different (and vegan!) cuisines. She wouldn’t have realized how much she loves Berlin.
YOU CAN FIND COMFORT OUTSIDE YOUR COMFORT ZONE
Before embarking on her trip, Alayna decided to take advantage of all the extra activities Contiki offered. Though her fears and doubts told her she should probably decline, she “kicked her ‘no’ brain in the face” and said yes to all of them, pushing herself further and further outside her comfort zone. One stand-out event was an amazing night at the orchestra in Vienna. “It was just so cool,” she said. “What an experience to have! And I wouldn’t have had that if I just said no.”
SAYING YES NOW WILL MAKE IT EASIER TO SAY YES IN THE FUTURE
In her last video while reflecting on her experiences, Alayna dropped a major truth bomb: “Exploration and curiosity breed exploration and curiosity.” Pushing herself to say yes throughout her trip and having awesome experiences as a result made it easier and easier for her to be confident in her choices. And the unforgettable travel experience she had only made her more excited for her next adventure.
YOU MIGHT BE AFRAID TO SAY YES, BUT YOU WILL BECOME A BETTER PERSON BECAUSE OF IT
As cheesy as it sounds, Alayna swears saying yes allowed her to go through a transformation. Pushing her limits and challenging herself expanded her comfort zones and made her rediscover how important travel is for personal growth.
“Stay curious. Explore. There is so much self-discovery involved in being thrust into a new country, in a new continent, surrounded by a new group people,” she said. “And that’s wonderful.”
