Not quite a wallet, not quite a portfolio, not quite a carry all. I’m not too sure what to call this proportion/style of bag. Perhaps… a man clutch? Yes. We’ll go with that. You need a man clutch. Here are the reasons why:
1) You have too much stuff to not carry around a bag, but not enough stuff to need a tote or portfolio.
2) They are surprisingly easy to come by if you know what you’re looking for.
3) You look a little more important when you carry one around. Seriously, it’s true.
4) Because I said so, okay?!
Now that we’ve established that you do indeed need a man clutch, you may ask me “Where do I start looking for a man clutch, Andrew?” Well, that’s what I’m here for. I’ve put my sick obsession with online shopping to good use and searched far and wide for the nicest man clutches around. You may also be wondering “How do I know when a clutch is a man clutch and not just a clutch?” That one is a tough call. Size, proportions, materials, closures, and detailing all can make or break it. My best advice is to just trust your gut. If you doubt that it might be too feminine, just move along! The right bag will come!
If you decide to go the thrifting route, good on ya. Here’s a few vintage bags I’ve found on Etsy that might be a good guideline for what to keep an eye out for.

This faux croc may not be in the best condition, but it’s listed for one freaking dollar, so, someone should maybe just buy it.

Loving this Cigi leather bag. The strap is a nice detail and the pockets seem super useful. Not a bad price at $49 either, but we can do better. The last bag I showed you was a buck for heavens sakes.

This bag is a bit of a vintage splurge at $118, but it’s Coach… so… I guess there’s that.

Why all the black? There’s nothing wrong with a nice brown man clutch either. I’d definitely pick this puppy up if I found it at a thrift store.
Now, some of us don’t have the time nor patience to thrift. That’s fine. I’ve picked out a few pieces that may be of interest to those of us not trying to pinch every penny.

First off, the beautiful PS1 iPad case. I don’t even have an iPad and I want this bag. So beautiful, and a steal for a PS1 at $685. Amazing.

I chose this Burberry “Ziparound Clutch Bag” if only for the name. It’s listed under the Men’s Accessories tag so I think I’m just reassuring myself that the name “Man Clutch” isn’t totally unrealistic. If Burberry uses it then I think it’s okay, guys. If you’ve got $895 laying around and need a new bag, this could very well be your one.

And in the “not so splurge” new bag category, the American Apparel Small Carry-All Pouch. American Apparel has some great leather goods, and I really love this small leather bag. Available in literally every color you can imagine, you’re sure to find one to fit right into your wardrobe.
I hope you’re willing to try this look out!
