Love can be a fickle thing, especially when you live in Hollywood and spend every waking hour either working, schmoozing, or attending fancy events. Which is why we’re in awe whenever a celebrity relationship lasts more than a couple months.
If celebs can make their relationships work, we can too. But that doesn’t mean we couldn’t use a little advice and reassurance from the celebrity couples we admire most before diving into the dating pool or finally deciding to DTR. Unless a Hollywood manager is reading this right now (if so, hit us up), the chances of us actually getting advice from any of these celebrities are slim. Nevertheless, we let our hopes and dreams run wild in honour of Valentine’s Day and came up with a list of successful celebrity couples we’d most want to be our unofficial relationship counselors.
SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR AND FREDDIE PRINZE JR.
Gellar and Prinze Jr. didn’t get married until 2002, five years after they met on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer, and made sure to establish a strong friendship with one another before they started dating. But they’ve been going strong ever since, acting alongside each other in 2002’s Scooby-Doo and 2004’s Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (as Daphne and Fred, naturally) and giving birth to two children in 2009 and 2012. Based on Gellar’s consistently adorable Instagram feed, the two are as happy together now as they were sixteen years ago. And apparently Prinze Jr.’s also a great cook? #RelationshipGoals
ANSEL ELGORT AND VIOLETTA KOMYSHAN
Cory and Topanga. Chuck and Blair. And now, Ansel and Violetta. The Baby Driver star and his GF (a New York-based professional dancer) met in high school and exchanged phone numbers over Starbucks. Plus, Elgort is apparently Komyshan’s honourary Instagram photographer (we could all use one of those). They broke up for a brief period in 2014, but the fact that they couldn’t stay apart for long is enough to convince us that Elgort and Komyshan will attend many a future red carpet together.
TYLER POSEY AND SOPHIA TAYLOR ALI
The actor formerly known as Teen Wolf only opened up about his relationship with Grey’s Anatomy’s Sophia Taylor Ali at the tail end of 2017. But it turns out Posey had a reason for waiting so long. On Instagram, he explained that he’d “always had some weird hang up” when it came to love but that Ali encouraged him to “tackle these things” and pursue a long-term romantic relationship anyway. Now, Posey’s account is full of pics of him and Ali posing and looking cute. If he could coach us through how to shed our own relationship hang-ups, that’d be great.
COLTON HAYNES AND JEFF LEATHAM
Speaking of Teen Wolf, Colton Haynes and his boyfriend Jeff Leatham tied the knot last October. Haynes rose to fame in 2011, but he didn’t come out publicly until 2016 for a myriad of reasons, including anxiety-related issues and concerns that being open about his sexual orientation would negatively impact his career. Since coming out and, more recently, getting married, Haynes appears to be the happiest he’s ever been, proving that being comfortable with yourself is essential if you want to feel comfortable with someone else. Side Note: Leatham is a professional florist, so check out his Instagram if you want to see dozens of expertly composed flower photos.
SAMIRA WILEY AND LAUREN MORELLI
Dating someone you work with is usually a big no-no, but Samira Wiley and Orange Is the New Black writer Lauren Morelli prove that there are exceptions to the rule. Wiley and Morelli bonded on the set of OITNB while Morelli was in the midst of separating from her ex-husband. And at the time, Morelli apparently thought being with Wiley was “too good to be true.” Fast-forward to 2017, when the two put together a picturesque wedding filled with Jell-O shots, Bruno Mars songs, and excessive amounts of confetti. We’re offended that we weren’t invited, but if Wiley and Morelli agree to give us a few dating tips we’ll call it even.
MILA KUNIS AND ASHTON KUTCHER
Every part of Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher’s love story sounds too perfect to be real. First, Kunis and Kutcher played love interests on That ‘70s Show. Kunis dated Macaulay Culkin, Kutcher married Demi Moore. The two reconnected when they were single and in the middle of promoting two movies about casual relationships, Friends with Benefits and No Strings Attached. And now they’re married and have two kids. Is it just us, or do you have a strange urge to hit up your middle school crush, too?
AARON PAUL AND LAUREN PARSEKIAN
Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul might be as intensely enthusiastic about his wife as Jesse Pinkman is about science. Paul met activist Laura Parsekian at Coachella (crazy, but true), and the two got married in 2013. Paul and Parsekian welcomed their first child just last week, and Paul continues to pepper his Instagram account with sweet couple photos, all captioned with gushing declarations of love. Like this one. Or this one. It turns out you truly can find love in unexpected places.
JOHN LEGEND AND CHRISSY TEIGEN
You didn’t think we would leave the King and Queen of social media off our list, did you? Legend and Teigen have slowly but surely become one of Hollywood’s most beloved power couples, but it wasn’t always that way. In fact, the two hooked up after shooting the music video for Legend’s “Stereo” back in 2007. Eventually, hooking up turned into texting, which turned into dating, which turned into marriage and a baby (with a second on the way). So if you ever need reassurance that a casual relationship can turn into a long-lasting and serious relationship, look no further than Legend, Teigen, and Teigen’s Twitter account.
