If April showers bring May flowers, then May flowers bring picnicking for hours (™). The FORA team decided to take advantage of the (FINALLY) beautiful weather by eating food on a blanket in the park. Here are our tips on planning the perfect picnic!
Kind of goes without saying that picnics need blankets. But you’d be surprised how often it’s left behind, when everyone’s worried about snacks and music and where to hide the liquor.
No meal with friends is complete without a soundtrack. Be sure to pack a portable speaker to set the mood right, but remember to ~*respect thy neighbour*~ and keep the volume at a reasonable level.
FORA HACK: No speaker? Play music from your phone and put it in a plastic cup. Instant speaker acquired!
Not just any eats. PICNIC EATS. Picnic eats are very strategic. They need to be compact, tasty, last for a long amount of time for maximum day snacking and they must master the balance between sweet and salty.
We feel watermelon is the ultimate picnic fruit. Once cut up, it’s small, light, and looks great in photos (because if you had a picnic and didn’t Instagram, did you really picnic at all?).
The main course of the picnic, sandwiches have to cater to everyone on the picnic. Don’t give your vegetarian friends a reason to complain (for once), make a veggie option AND a meat option, and everyone’s happy!
For your salty fix, crackers are always the way to go. We went real ritzy and brought along some hummus. Trust us, hummus is a sure fire way to make friends fast.
Make sure your sweet tooth is satisfied. Cookies are always a good idea.
The snack to keep you going. Bring some popcorn for some full-day snacking.
Obviously water is key, but pink lemonade is prettier.
Whether it’s one friend or your whole posse, friends are always the key to a great picnic.
Now it’s your turn! Pack your bags, use our checklist, and go kick off the summer with the ultimate picnic!
