I may seem all dude-like to you right now but let’s get real, need I say more?

Yeah, I didn’t think so.

The best instances always result from bizarre things getting married (take a look at Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ spawn for example) – and this is a belief that I’ve been dedicated to for the past couple of years. I couldn’t explain how this came about, but contrary to popular belief, it wasn’t something I adopted for the sake of being more likeable and relatable. Rather, it was something that came about ~organically~ because I took it upon myself to be more open-minded.

I therefore would like to present you with sushi cats: two of my favourite things existing as one entity (for the present time). This entire construct excited me so greatly I needed to articulate it as soon as humanly possible, and that is why this sushi cat collective is about to exist. I hope you are okay with this because the world is about to get really real.
Though I’d like to think sushi cats were a product of my imagination, it was Japanese peanut company Tange & Nakimushi that got the idea out into the public – advertising the initiative as a nod to the historical, and claiming that these fishy felines are /real/ (and can subsequently be traced back to cave painting dayz). Whether or not this is the truth, the following video exists that might clarify a lot of things about this situation in particular, and also about the aforementioned really real world.

And if that was too abstract for you (if you listen really hard I’m pretty sure the narrator recites a haiku at one point), there is also this short film will will literally make your brain melt.

The only notable thing to take out of that (besides everything): “Mum…why am I a sushi?”

Now that I have proven that the similar/identical feelings you were feeling through the beginning portion of this post are completely normal, let’s take the time to openly admit that our admiration for sushi cats doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that me/you/we had any interest in visualizing edible things with our favourite furry friends (because that’s not the case at all!!).

SoOoo now that we’ve established we are shallow human beings, let’s get down to the nitty gritty, and take this time to review the best sushi cats in existence!!!

This sushi cat has a good composition and optimizes all of the most important design principles. Also, look at the emotions that this sushi cat possesses!

This sushi cat has a good colour scheme. It’s expression makes me believe that it is a sassy cat who maybe goes the name of Sally.

I like this type of sushi cat because it’s coupled with an entire lobster – and therefore, it must be ritzy.

This ping pong sushi cat looks like it would be a good friend. It is also is the cutest sushi cat I ever did see. 10/10.

The white fur of this sushi cat really compliments the colour of the sushi rice. Also, this sushi cat resembles a mermaid, so maybe this sushi cat is #seapunk?

This sushi cat has nice form and nice cucumbers.

So…what is the purpose of this? I’m not too sure myself. But at the same time, I’m not going to sit here and complain that such a wonderful thing has presented itself in multiple varieties on my favourite realm of the WWW. However, before you continue on with your day…

Hi again! Let me introduce you to James Lavapie, a fellow fashion/reality TV junkie who interns for Corduroy, a beautiful independently-run magazine that just so happened to make our list of The Top 5 Canadian Print Magazines Worth Buying. Get to know James a tiny bit before he adventures off to London in this weeks addition of Meet a Cool Intern!

1. Tell us about yourself! What you’re studying, where you’re interning, etc.

My name’s James Lavapie. I’m a fashion fanatic, aspiring writer, and reality tv junkie currently interning and writing for CORDUROY MAGAZINE. I just graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Art History and Political Science this past April.

2. What is a typical day like at your internship?

The great thing about interning at an independently-run magazine like CORDUROY is that I’m able to do much more than just get coffee or run menial errands. When I’m out working, my day usually involves conducting interviews and writing articles for CORDUROY’s online blog, shooting images to go along with the blog posts, and covering various events throughout the city.

3. What is the most memorable, interesting, or embarrassing experience you have encountered on the job?

Definitely my most memorable and interesting experience was being able to interview performance artist Marina Abramovic for the upcoming issue. Not only is she an incredible person, but she’s also the muse to Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci so suffice it to say her closet was ridiculous!

4. What is the hardest part of your job?

This may sound like a cop out, but my job’s pretty easy. I love fashion, art, and writing, and that’s pretty much all that working for CORDUROY entails.
 

5. What are the perks of your job?

Despite being independently-run, CORDUROY is a magazine with an international presence and consistently features some of the most important tastemakers and influencers from the worlds of fashion and art in its pages (just pick up a copy of Issue X and see for yourself!). Just being able to write for CORDUROY is a perk all in itself.

6. What things interest you outside of your work?

It would be an understatement to say that I’m obsessed with reality tv, right now my favourites are “Bad Girls Club” and “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta” – they’re guilty pleasures. But when I’m not killing the few brain cells I have left doing that, I’m busy working on a blog two friends and I recently started called KNOWWALLS, it’s a style blog which will also feature my love for DIY projects and exclusive blackboard interviews with all of our creative friends.
 

7. Where do you think/hope fashion and your internship will take you?

I’ve already been able to do so much working for CORDUROY, networking is an absolute necessity in today’s workforce and I’ve been able to meet some amazing people solely because of this job.
 

8. What’s your dream job?

I’m actually moving to London, England at the beginning of next month to pursue my “dream job” and further my writing career. I would absolutely love to become an editor for one of the amazing publications based in the UK, or maybe even start my own magazine one day.

9. Any advice?

Figure out what you want, and do everything in your power to achieve it. Obviously easier said than done, but realizing success is really only a matter of desire and willpower.
