Happy 30th Essie, Dearest.

Our favourite nail polish line is 30 years old! Yes, 30. Check out our most loved lacquers Essie has ever made. And get a sneak peak of what’s new for 2012.

OUR FAVOURITES:

chinchillychinchilly

BORN: 2009

WHAT ESSIE HAS TO SAY:

chinchilly was part of the now famous Cuddle with Color Collection. It was a big breakthrough shade because it was the first true greige on the market. Alternately tempestuous and sphinx-like, this cool grey is blended with sumptuously soft cream for an incredibly sophisticated effect.

licoricelicorice

BORN: 1982

WHAT ESSIE HAS TO SAY:

This deep black hue was originally created for the Asian market, where highly embellished nail styles were already in fashion. Nail technicians would use this jet black as the perfect backdrop for nail art, where the women would tell a story on their nails. After 30 years, this hypnotic shade is still a favorite for self-expression.

lilacismlilacism

BORN: 2010

WHAT ESSIE HAS TO SAY:

Art inspired me as much as fashion, and I was moved to create a collection based on multiple art movements called the Art of Spring. In that collection I had shades such as van d’go, tart deco, neo-whimsical and lilacism. I can’t think of a more romantic shade of lilac – this shade is a true work of art.

merino coolmerino cool

BORN: 2010

WHAT ESSIE HAS TO SAY:

This muted purple grey is a chameleon color – on some it looks more purple and on other more grey. But either way, it looked amazing on Lady Gaga, who paired it with her now famous meat dress, at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2010. It’s the color for cool, modern women (and little monsters).

mink muffsmink muffs

BORN: 2009

WHAT ESSIE HAS TO SAY:

This shade is also from the Cuddle with Color Collection and I chose it because this collection was so important. It created an entire new category in the market. No one ever thought women would wear a grey or greige nail polish before! When this smoky, plush taupe made its debut, it became an instant a-list favorite, suitable for all occasions. It’s sometimes subtle, sometimes bold and always mysterious.

sew psychedsew psyched

BORN: 2010

WHAT ESSIE HAS TO SAY:

Originally part of our Luxurious Fabrics Collection for Fall 2010, this cashmere pewter-sage was the first green-greige to create a stir in beauty and fashion circles. It looks and feels soft, but it has an edgy feel to it. It was ahead of its time, inspiring devout devotion among editors and stylists alike.

wickedwicked

BORN: 1984

WHAT ESSIE HAS TO SAY:

wicked was the most incredible learning experience for me. After many pastels, I wanted to do something totally different. I wanted to go as dark as possible but with a touch of red. When I first introduced it, people were in a state of shock. But once they tried it, they were addicted. It became an overnight sensation that everyone “had to have”. Salons couldn’t keep the color in stock from day one. This was a real turning point for me personally because it taught me to always trust my instincts.

WHAT’S IN STORE FOR 2012:

This shimmery collection looks lovely over both neutral and dark bases. No cheap and cheesy dollar-store glitter here, folks. These hit stores January 17th.

It’s not even winter, yet, but we’re already planning our 2012 escape. And, apparently, so is Essie. The Resort 2012 Collection colours are aptly given names like she’s picture perfect and no more filmget it? Because people take photos on vacation. And see that beautiful burst of magenta back there? That’s sure shot. And we want it. (Available March 2012)

Now we’re really excited. Essie’s Spring Collection boasts names like a crewd interest, to buy or not to buy & tour de finance – see a theme here? Oh, by the way the collection is called a spring to invest in, has the best orange hue we’ve ever seen, and will be available in salons in April 2012.

1 bottle, 700-something shades, 30 years. We love essie.
