SUMMER IS HERE!!! FINALLY!!! These are some essentials to keep you looking smokin’ hot (and not sweaty hot) this summer.
1. Bright, matte lips
Easiest way to keep your makeup on trend but still wearable in sweltering hot weather (and even acceptable at the beach)? Matte lips! They look best with dewy skin, so don’t bother using face powder when you sport these attention grabbing colours! I’m in love with MAC lipstick in Candy Yum Yum, Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Carina, and Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tars in Narcissus and Grandma.
2. Illuminated skin
Get the summertime glow by mixing a bit of illuminator into your foundation or moisturizer. I’m currently obsessed with Face Atelier‘s Ultra Sheer in Champagne for light skin, Peach for medium skin tones and Bronze for the deeper beauties. Try mixing with a moisturizer with a glow factor like Clean & Clear Morning Glow SPF 15.
3. Sunscreen that smells amazing
To me, Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion Sunscreen SPF 30 totally smells like summer AND protects your skin. For your face, I prefer Clarins Sun Control Stick For Sun Sensitive Areas UVA/UVB 30… no more burnt noses, lips or ears, and easy to carry in your bag for touchups.
If you happen to overdo it with the UV rays, straight-up Noxema Original Deep Cleansing Cream feels pretty, pretty pretty good. Slather it on – it feels like stepping into a freezer….ahhhhh.
I’m actually NOT a fan of self-tanner, but I know some of y’all are gonna do it anyway. My tips: DON’T use self tanner on the face. Please. (Use a bronzer or Benefit‘s Hoola… and blend over the jawline onto the neck.) On the body, make sure skin is exfoliated (especially knees, elbows, ankles)… and then apply a normal body moisturizer to the palms of the hands, between fingers, bottoms of feet etc. to protect those areas from becoming streaky or abnormally orange. Then use a quality bronzer like Clarins Delectable Self Tanning Mousse. I like this one because it smells pretty good and is a golden bronze colour… not Oompa Loompa orange. After you’ve applied, walk around nude for a while (entertain those roommates!… KIDDING!!) until it absorbs into the skin before you get dressed or go to bed. Aint nobody got time for bronzed bedsheets, people.
5. Bright, waterproof eye liner
Make Up For Ever Aqua Liners in bright, beautiful colours look the same before and after a dip in the pool. Try a cat eye with a bright pop of colour for an instant summer look. Pair with a nude lip.
6. Soft, beachy hair
Spending a lot of time in the ocean or a pool can wreak havoc on your locks. Soften them up with Garnier‘s Sleek and Shine Moroccan Sleek Oil Treatment.
Have a fringe? Tired of it getting stringy in the summer heat? Blast it with a bit of Batiste Dry Shampoo (It even comes in different scents, like Tropical), let it set for about 2 minutes then brush through. Back to being bangin’.
If you want to keep that beachy, messy hair look for nights out, let your hair air-dry after your shower and add Kevin Murphy Hair Resort Spray. Amazing texture and it’s worth the buy for the smell alone!!
7. Waterproof mascara, duh!
I love Blinc Kiss Me Mascara, but if you don’t want to shell out the dough, go for CoverGirl Professional All-In-One Waterproof Mascara or Maybelline New York Volum’ Express Waterproof Mascara to keep the raccoon eyes away this summer.
8. Bright nail polish
I LOVE the New Neons collection from Essie. My nail guru Rita Remark tells me to get the best “pop” of neon, it’s best to layer the neon polish over a coat of white polish. YES.
9. Fake some freckles
Use Kay as inspiration! (Hers are real, but you can fake yours if you weren’t blessed like she is!) Use a waterproof brown eye/brow pencil liner to place dots randomly over the nose/cheeks, then dab with a tissue for a more natural effect. Try MAC Eye Brows in Fling or Lingering.
Enjoy your summer!!!
