Spice Girl Style Moments That Are Relevant Today

Throughout the entirety of his years spent away at boarding school, Prince William only changed the poster above his bed once. When he first moved in, the British heir hung a snapshot of Pam Anderson above his bed. After years of love for the Canadian bombshell, the Prince finally decided to part ways with the image and replaced Pam with a poster of his newest love: Baby Spice. #fact

At the crossroad of platform heels and *girl power*, a group of five sassy British popstars ruled the 90s airwaves and fashion scene. At the height of their careers in 1996, the Spice Girls’ style was just as important as their music, having the power to influence a whole generation as well as a British Prince. Evidently, these timeless trends have resurfaced in the form of today’s hottest fashions. Every ensemble from Kung Fu fighting/dancing queen/tribal/spaceman (and all that’s in between) – here is a look the timeless fashions from Spice World. How To Be: Azealia Banks

Azealia Banks is just like us. She shops at ASOS. She aspires to be a mermaid. And she’s broke with expensive taste (well maybe not so much since Harlem Shake went viral, but…). Forget Jenny, New York’s fieriest flame is Azealia from block. Acid tongued, unleashed, and uncensored, the 21-year-old lyricist has positioned herself as the star of 2013. Like the rest of the world, we’re crushing on Az for her brazen ambition and muse-worthy style. Call her a Harlem hardnock, Aquababe, or Jupiter Queen, because either way, the sought-after troublemaker isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Here’s your 101 on how to be queen of the 212. read more…

MIXTAPE: March In Review

Spring is on the horizon, and the notion of new beginnings and a fresh start are all around us. March’s musical madness is no exception to the trend as long-time legends presented new, upgraded, and refined versions of themselves. The man of a thousand faces himself, David Bowie, released his first major masterpiece since his 1980s album Scary Monsters. The Postal Service joined in on the craze by leaking a single from their highly anticipated deluxe reissue of Give Up, and even Wavves frontman Nathan Williams shows a softer more mature side with anthems of reckless abandon – a far cry from his carefree King of the Beach days. Fresh vibes front and center, these brand new musical acts teach us that change can be a wonderful thing. read more…

What constitutes a #seapunk?

I don’t know about you, but I spent the bulk of my childhood idealizing mermaids. I’m not sure if it was because sparkles, talking sea creatures, and perfectly #FF000 (red) hair eluded me, or if it was just because my local mall housed a rather large Disney Store with a very extensive Little Mermaid display. Either way, I always wanted to be a sea person and that is a brief synopsis of my childhood and then some more and then the end. read more…
