As our big ol’ native land turns 147 this year, let’s take the time to really think about the place we call home. If Canada were a girl, her star sign would be Cancer.

Like other famous Cancers (Vin Diesel, Sylvester Stallone, and Mike Tyson) Canada is one tough cookie. On the down side, like a true water sign she can be a bit moody (like what’s up with this weather, gurl?!). Most importantly though, according to this reliable source called “Wikipedia”, Cancers often have large families – the more the merrier! With a penchant for friendship and patriotism, Canada has all the makings of a true Cancer. And for that, We The North salute you by way of beer drinking, burger grilling, and an all-Canadian mixtape!

!!Happy Birthday ya old girl Drake!! read more…

DJ CRUSH: Brendan Fallis

Small-town Canadian boy Brendan Fallis has been super busy making quite a name for himself over the past little while as both DJ and all around ~kool, krush-worthy guy~. He is a master at mixing (Electro, House, Rock, ’80s, ’90s, Oldies, Hip Hop, Funk – you name it), and this along with his ability to read a crowd has rendered him one of the most sought after DJs in the country. He is one of Vogue’s official DJs (which is a pretty BIG deal if you ask me, but hey – I might be biased), and in the past two years has provided music for some pretty ~KOOL~ clients like Alexander Wang, Chanel, Marc Jacobs, and Interview Magazine. He is also the manager and official DJ for Theophilus London. read more…

Awesome Non-Sports Things About The OLYMPICS

The Olympics are pretty much the mother of all sporting events. Even though they claim to bring countries together, what I like best is that they bring Canada together. #CANADAPRIDE

During the Olympics we aren’t Jets vs. Leafs, Canucks vs…. lol jk I know nothing about hockey – the point is that during the Olympics Canada rulez even more than usual. Plus, even people like me who aren’t exactly “sports fans” by nature can totally participate. Here are some awesome things about the Olympics aside from the physical activity part. read more…

MIXTAPE: Arcade Fire, All In

The movies Mean Girls, Clueless, and The Virgin Suicides are all 97 minutes long. That’s only a dozen more than the 85 minutes of rhythmic bliss that is Arcade Fire’s fourth studio album Reflektor. Though not a Sofia Coppola cult classic, the album’s quirky (and somewhat peculiar) music videos were filmed by none other than Coppola’s big bro! Overflowing with celeb cameos (hey there James Franco!), this album’s collection of accompanying films takes the ~video as art~ notion to the next level. Equally as ambitious are the sounds that our favourite Montrealers explore; this time around, they’re working with reggae, disco, and Haitian rara roots for an experimental sound.

Cheer on your fellow Canadians making it big, with our mixtape of old classics and new anthems. John Legend and The Roots tackle a 2004 chartopper, while the hitmakers themselves delve into the 80s archives with a revamped Peter Gabriel cover. Simultaneously, a radical departure from past works and a return to their true selves, Arcade Fire reiminds us once again: No matter what neighbourhood you come from (even the ‘burbs), there’s always a jangling, groove-inducing melody for each hood. read more…

THE NEW ERA: Myles Sexton

We at FORA are strong believers in supporting all things cool & Canadian; and we’re not just talking about the Biebs, Beliebers! Having collected some of the coolest characters from across the country to develop the content you’re reading, we felt it only made sense to step out of the office and showcase a new roster of national talent. In a bi-weekly exposé that highlights one outstanding up-and-comer, we’ll familiarize ourselves with a series of individuals responsible for shaping THE NEW ERA of Canadian culture!

For our first NEW ERA post, we had the pleasure of chatting with the man of the moment and jack-of-all-trades, Myles Sexton. Having built a business, brand and following all by being himself, Myles has fostered an iconic look in his own game of gender-revision; most recently featured at the L’Oreal Presentation in Paris, France. Having strutted down more then 50 catwalks, he’s “redefining what it is to be a male model in this fashion industry,” and is undoubtedly the perfect person to kick off this innovative and exciting all-Canadian series! read more…
