The Evolution of: Rihanna

Source: GQ

Let’s take a little walk down memory lane with one of our favourites, BadGal RiRi.

It feels like forever since Rihanna emerged on the scene. Having gone through many stages of success, she has never achieved the amount of buzz that surrounds her today. She is a social media phenomena who is recognized worldwide as not only a talented songstress, but also a fashion icon and an all around beaut. Because she even has a navy of her own, lets just go ahead and call her Queen RiRi. Sorry B, we are going to have to make room for two. Rihanna hasn’t always been a blunt-blowing bad girl, so lets take a gander at what made her who she is today… read more…

MIXTAPE: Unexpected Collaborations

Mixing and matching is always encouraged in the fashion world, but how well does the tick play out in music? Can the brash lyrics of a garage band play nice with Afro-pop-laced rhymes of a reggae band? 2013’s edition of The Coach taught us that two heads (or sounds) are certainly better than one. First The XX blew our minds when they invited Solange on stage to collaborate on a cover of Aaliyah’s “Hot Like Fire”. The rhythmic indulgence ensued when French indie rockers Phoenix invited R&B heavyweight R. Kelly to join them onstage for a duet on Kelly’s longtime classic “Ignition”. In honor of these unpredictable duets we’ve rallied up 17 collabs from our wildest dreams. Embrace the unexpected with our soundtrack to your Humpday shenanigans. read more…

#Unapologetic Things We Learned From Rihanna’s Tweets

This week we’d like to honour bad girl RiRi for some…useful…things that we’ve learned from the Twitterverse. At first her tweets left many of us picking our jaws up off the floor (because how could someone possibly be so outspokenly vulgar?!), but then we realized that for someone whose signature move is a pat down of her crotch, we really shouldn’t be surprised. Nevertheless, us tweeters have grown accustomed and appreciative of RiRi’s abrasive tweets, which, although leave us feeling giddy, also leave us 1000% in admiration. Let’s face it – would you be bold enough to even think half of the things she tweets…? #unapologetic read more…

Singers Turned Actors: Not Always A Good Idea

Beyoncé, being Beyoncé, is always the exception to the rule. Sasha Fierce, who got her roots in the music biz, was just as ethereal as a Dream Girl as she was a Destiny’s Child. Other musical starlets who weren’t as lucky to be born Mrs. Carter have had a harder time breaking onto the acting scene. (And attn, Brittney Spears, this means you.) Join us as we observe our favourite musical talents up against silver screen versions of themselves. ~Lights, camera, action~…and Queen Latifa as a nanny! read more…

Throwback Thursday: Awkward Celebrity Prom Photos

Spoiler Alert: The following post contains questionable 90s hair, Tupac in a white suit, and way too much organza + taffeta to be sartorially sane. But If there’s anything that this throwback has taught us (other than the fact that cow print and blue hair don’t mix) it’s that even celebs can’t escape the inevitably awkward photo ops associated with prom. So embrace the camera, maybe throw in a Cara face for good measure, and werk your prom hair – because even if you’re Princess Riri, you’ve got nothing on awkward prom photos. read more…

Non-Lame Prom Hairstyles: Tumblr Edition

Source: MTV Buzzworthy

So you’ve all heard of wedding crashers, but what about PROM crashers? (We’re looking at you Katy Perry!) In 2010, the California Gurl made headlines for crashing a high school prom in Melbourne, Australia while staying at the same hotel where the prom was being held. Allegedly, the singer was returning to her suite when she heard California Girls playing. Next thing ya know, KP had bust into the event and jumped on stage to give a live performance!

Guarantee you’ll be prom perfect with some hair inspo from the tumblrverse. It’s a pretty important day, right? I mean, Katy might just pop in. read more…

April Showers Bring… Kick-A$$ Rain Gear: A Shopping Guide

It’s raining coats and wellies up in here as we welcome the seasonal wave of downpours and drizzles. They’ll be no rainy day blues for us, for the stormy season comes with a serious set of perks. For example: the likeliness of being kissed by Ryan Gosling in the pouring rain increases…but that was a given. On a less-obvious note, April showers ditch the May flowers, and instead bring us some a$$ rain gear! Come on mother nature, rain on my style parade because this year’s April showers are sprouting some seriously awesome wardrobe essentials.

If Celebrities Were Cars

Stare into the souls of all Internet-viewers and try to say that the above picture is not an almost human face. Because it’s a face, and it is almost human. After all, there’s a reason why Disney/Pixar’s Cars was such a hit, and it wasn’t because Owen Wilson was the voice of Lightning McQueen. Cars are people, people are cars, and the two are most certainly interchangeable. Though it took us a while to fully understand, being struck with this ~revelation~ sent us into a flurry of research, as we were keen to discover which faces of our beloved Hollywood stars were hiding under which hoods. Come take a ~celebrity face roadtrip~ with us! read more…

WANT: Temporary Tattoos… For Grown-Ups!

Photo: Julia Robbs for Tattly.com

Kim Kardashian once famously said about tattoos, “You don’t put a bumper sticker on a Bentley.” There are a few things wrong with that statement: 1) she compared herself to a car. Come on, Kim, you’re better than that! And 2) tattoos are COOL, duh!

That said, it can sometimes be scary to commit to one design for life — just ask Angelina Jolie and her “Billy Bob” tattoo. Enter Tattly.com, the online retailer of our childhood dreams and the adulthood dreams we never knew we had: Tattly sells affordable temporary tattoos designed by real artists and their faux ink looks totally real. Finally, a way to rebel without the permanence (which isn’t real rebellion but who cares)!

Follow our handy dandy celebrity guide to picking out your ideal Tattly designs: read more…
