One half of Toronto’s very own design couple du jour, Kim Newport-Mimran, showed her spring/summer 2012 Pink Tartan collection last Wednesday night in front of a packed (to the brim) house. One of the main draws of Toronto Fashion Week; Newport-Mimran showed a mostly black, white and navy blue collection with pops of red, orange and sparkle. While nothing was particulairly groundbreaking or inventive the collection was cohesive and consistent with Newport-Mimran’s simple, chic and well-fitting aesthetic of seasons past.

Toronto Fashion Week: Joe Fresh is (as expected) really, really lovely.
Nothing outrageous, controversial or edgy here, people. But if there was, we’d probably be concerned. Joe Fresh’s spring / summer line is perfectly mod, boldly coloured, and simply put: wearable. read more…
Toronto Fashion Week: Attitude by Jay Manuel is… Well… What It Is…
In true Jay Manuel fashion (pun intended) there was no shortage of drama at the Attitude by Jay Manuel Spring 2012 show Tuesday night. It started with spectacle and smoke (which tripped up veteran Yasmin Warsame… oops) and ended with a standing ovation. read more…
Toronto Fashion Week: Who Wears Short Shorts & Harnesses? Krane Does.
Krane showed it’s spring/summer 2012 line to an enthusiastic, packed house yesterday. The preview, which included the (slightly awkward) hanging up and taking down of bags, weaving behind and in front of barriers, and long periods of unexplained lack of movement, consisted of tuxedo inspired details, leather harnesses, summer suits, swimwear and short shorts (as all good and important menswear lines do). read more…

Toronto Fashion Week: Sid Neigum Brings Out Our Dark Side. And We Love It.
Leather, leather & [almost] all black everything. Sid Neigum’s runway presentation won a place in our sartorial hearts – triangular eyebrows included. Also included? Insane wedges of raw wood, strapped up & re-purposed as shoes. Fine, chopines, but man, we wish you could’ve seen them walk. read more…
Toronto Fashion Week: Chloe Comme Parris. We’re In Love.
Wearable, feminine, recognizable, refreshing… we could go on and on about Chloe Comme Parris’s [paint-splattered] runway presentation. But, you should see for yourself… read more…
Toronto Fashion Week: JUMA Tickles Our Eyes With Hints of McQueen
Sibling design team Aliya & Jamil Juma presented their Spring/Summer collection yesterday in Toronto. Excessive colour and exciting prints nod at sentiments of McQueen’s dizzying prints. Original? Maybe not entirely. Refreshing? Certainly. Plus, the soundtrack earned the duo approximately sixteen bonus points. (Ahem, The Roots, Beck, The Strokes…) read more…
Toronto Fashion Week: Arthur Mendonca SS12. Goods? Check. Consistency? Nope.
Arthur Mendonça, who launched his namesake label in 2002, was among the first designers to show at LG Fashion Week yestereve. The collection was slightly bipolar. But, Arthur, you had us at wide-leg animal print cap-sleeved jumpsuit. read more…
