If fashion wasn’t already one of the most intricate areas of art (a tall, but deserved, order), it’s been further complicated throughout history by its phonetics. Design words – from ombré to décolletage, haute to ruching – and the emergence of new, exotic designer names – have been mangled by even Vogue’s most faithful follower.
