EYE CANDY: Amazing Fashion Illustrations

Is it a requirement to be amazing at drawing in order to be successful in the fashion world? Well, according to this list I’ve compiled, you do. Sketching people and outfits has been a big part of fashion for a long time, which makes sense because fashion is v arty and arty people can usually draw real well. So here’s some people in the fashion biz who make me feel like I’ll never amount to anything because I can only draw a Nike swoosh on my homework. read more…

Your Comprehensive Guide To Pronouncing Designer Names

If fashion wasn’t already one of the most intricate areas of art (a tall, but deserved, order), it’s been further complicated throughout history by its phonetics. Design words – from ombré to décolletage, haute to ruching – and the emergence of new, exotic designer names – have been mangled by even Vogue’s most faithful follower. We’ve all had one of those read-it-but-never-once-said-it words touch our tongue leaving us bruised and broken, and vowing to silence rather than relive the horror of pronouncing Prabal Gurung (prub-le ger-rung) in public ever again. Crack open your schoolbook kids, because it’s time to brush up on the ABC’s of fashion designer diction. read more…

HUMPDAY NAIL ART: YSL Arty

The turquoise ring that swooped the nation. A tad dramatic? I just can’t help it. The YSL Arty ring has been around for a couple of years now & every time I think I’m over it, I see it somewhere & instantly fall in love again. My ring collection ranges from the poor student F21 special to heirlooms passed down. I just cannot justify spending $300 (of my own money) on a ring, that I will only wear when I feel it matches my outfit. But I think the YSL Arty is my exception. I decided to replicate the turquoise glass stone in a super easy nail art tutorial that can be done by any beginner nail DIY-er. read more…

Carpe Denim: The Evolution of the Denim Jacket

Denim has been around since the 1800′s, and has had the staying power of white on rice. Originally created for the workplace (rugged, durable, body safe) denim has earned itself an undeniably iconic status. The stuff of motorcycle riders and heavy metal concerts has been adapted by fashion’s cool kids, since the 1960s. Denim experts suggest never washing your denim to get its true ‘story’ on it, with its fades and wears and tears. Here’s our story on denim through the decades. read more…
