A Tasty Taste Of Toronto Adventure With Sharlene Chiu

So get this: the international Taste Festival makes its North American debut in Toronto this July 24-27 and it features 17 of the city’s most drool-worthy restaurants. As an avid eater and obsessive food lover, I’m beyond stoked for Taste of Toronto and have officially begun the countdown to July 24. To wane my hunger pains til then (and an excuse to eat 3 lunches), I invited my galpal/ MTV FORA’s editor, Dani Roche for a binge hop across the city to have a little Taste of…. Taste!
 

 

 

We travelled far and wide (from Roncesvalles to Queen and University…lol) to satisfy our tastebuds. We also lugged bags of props (and leftovers) with us because we are #casual #foodconnoisseurs.
 

 

BARQUE


There’s no better way to start a 3-part lunch then with Chef David Neinstein’s smoked meats at Barque.
 

We indulged in Smoked Duck Tacos with pickled radish and carrots, fried chicken skin, hoisin BBQ sauce, and scallions; Smoked Dry Rub Chicken Wings with pickled watermelon; and the signature “Barque Rack O’Bama” baby back ribs and potato salad with corn and smoked candied bacon. GO BIG OR GO HOME, people. #MeatSweats.
 

 

KHAO SAN ROAD


My fave Thai spot in Toronto is hands down Chef Chantana Top Srisomphan’s Khao San Road – and to inject a heavy dose of heat and flavor, it was a no brainer to hop downtown.
 

We feasted on Spicy Shrimp Salad with red bell pepper, scallions, and cilantro; Crispy Rice Salad with deep-fried seasoned rice, ginger, cilantro, fresh roasted peanuts, scallions, and spicy khao yum sauce; and, to soothe the heat, a nice tall glass of Thai Iced Tea.
 

 

MOMOFUKU NOODLE BAR


Although it was still in the early afternoon, we were full-on day drunk on food. When this happens, it’s always a good idea to “sober” up with a big bowl of ramen at Momofuku Noodle Bar. Wait – or is that just me?
 

Chef Sam Gelman prepared for us a Kale Salad with pear, sesame, and kimchi vinaigrette; Chilled Spring Ramen with dashi, horseradish, shiso, and ham; and the always satisfying Pork Buns with hoisin, scallion, and cucumber.
