While we love Leighton Meester the actress as Gossip Girl fave Blair Waldorf, more and more, we’re learning to love Leighton Meester the musician. We’ve gushed for her debut album Heartstrings in the past, but now, we’re gushing for her flawless cover of The Cardigans’ hit “Lovefool”.
Watch The A.V. Club performance under the cut and while you’re there, give a listen to our favourite cover songs by female musicians.

And as promised, our favourite covers from our favourite ladies:
1. ELLIE GOULDING // THE WEEKND
At this point, we’re pretty sure Ellie Goulding can do no wrong. This “High For This” cover successfully pays tribute to hometown hero Abel Tesfaye’s original. When we’re listening to this, we don’t need anything illegal to feel like we’re flying.
2. MØ // SPICE GIRLS
The only way to make a Spice Girls classic better is to have another badass female vocalist like MØ perform it. Girl power!
3. DAUGHTER // DAFT PUNK
The infectious radio hit by our favourite duo of French robots gets a makeover in this cover. Daughter’s stripped and slowed down version of this track sounds more like a lullaby than party anthem about staying up all night (’til the sun) (to get lucky).
4. ARIANA GRANDE // MARIAH CAREY
While Ari’s version doesn’t really stray far from the Mimi original, this rendition is amazing. We’re blown away by Ariana’s vocal ability–she hits all of Mariah’s notes, even the whistle notes. (Were we the only ones who thought this feat was humanly impossible?)
5. CHVRCHES // ARCTIC MONKEYS
Completely opposite to Ari’s cover, this CHVRCHES cover of “Do I Wanna Know?” is almost unrecognizable as an Arctic Monkeys song. The final result is a very chilling (and very clever) rendition of the original track.
6. MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS // JUSTIN BIEBER
In this cover, Marina completely re-imagines the original J-Beebs hit. Instead of being about a smooth-talking Romeo who could be your Buzz Lightyear flyin’ you across the globe, this piano ballad tells the tale of a girl who escaped a toxic relationship with a man who didn’t treat her right (Cause when I was your girlfriend/I always felt alone, I always felt alone).
7. ANGUS AND JULIA STONE // OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN
The Grease classic/everyone’s favourite karaoke song get folky with this Julia Stone treatment. Julia’s moody vocals breathes new life into the cheesy musical track you thought you were sick of.
